FURSUIT MEASUREMENT GUIDE

MEASURE WITH CONFIDENCE

Learn how to take accurate fursuit measurements for your head, neck, paws, and tail so your custom pieces can be built for a comfortable fit.

This guide walks through the measurements WildSoul Studio may request for your commission. You do not need to provide final measurements before submitting a commission request.

01

BEFORE YOU MEASURE

Use a flexible measuring tape and wear light, close-fitting clothing while measuring. Keep the tape comfortably against the body without pulling it tight or leaving excessive slack.

USE A FLEXIBLE TAPE

Use a soft tailor's measuring tape rather than a rigid ruler.

KEEP A NATURAL POSTURE

Stand naturally and avoid deliberately stretching or tightening your body.

ASK SOMEONE TO HELP

For measurements that are difficult to take accurately yourself, ask another person to assist.

MEASURE TWICE

Take every measurement at least twice. If the results differ, measure again before submitting.

USE ONE UNIT CONSISTENTLY

Centimeters or inches are both acceptable, but clearly state which unit you are using and do not mix them.

02

HEAD MEASUREMENTS

To measure your head for a fursuit, use a soft measuring tape to record your head circumference, head height, and neck circumference. Keep the tape comfortably close without pulling it tight, and follow the steps below for each measurement.

A. HEAD CIRCUMFERENCE

Wrap the measuring tape around the widest part of your head, passing above the eyebrows, above the ears, and around the fullest part at the back of the head.

Tip: Keep the tape level and comfortably snug. Do not pull it tight enough to compress the hair or skin.

B. HEAD HEIGHT

Measure vertically from the top of your head down to the bottom of your chin.

Tip: Keep your head in a natural, level position and measure in a straight vertical line.

C. NECK CIRCUMFERENCE

Wrap the tape around the base of your neck where the fursuit head or neck area will naturally sit.

Tip: Keep the tape comfortably snug without tightening it around the neck.

03

PAW MEASUREMENTS

These measurements are only required if your commission includes paws. We will let you know when they are needed.

If paws are part of your approved commission configuration, explore our Partial Fursuit commissions.

A. ARM CIRCUMFERENCE

Measure around the fullest part of your arm while keeping your arm and muscles relaxed.

Tip: Keep the tape comfortably against the arm without pulling it tight.

B. PALM WIDTH

Keep your hand relaxed and fingers naturally together. Measure straight across the widest part of your palm, excluding the thumb.

Tip: Do not spread your fingers while taking this measurement.

04

TAIL LENGTH

WildSoul Studio tails are approximately 1 meter (about 39 inches) in length by default unless otherwise discussed as part of your commission.

If your character design requires a shorter, longer, or unusually shaped tail, let us know during the commission process. We will confirm the appropriate dimensions with you before production.

05

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR MEASUREMENTS

Once your commission reaches the measurement stage, WildSoul Studio will contact you with a measurement request.

Reply using the instructions provided in your commission email and clearly label each measurement with its unit.

If your commission includes paws and an Arm Circumference measurement is requested, include that measurement as well.

PLEASE DO NOT ESTIMATE YOUR MEASUREMENTS.

EXAMPLE

Head Circumference: 58 cm

Head Height: 24 cm

Neck Circumference: 38 cm

Palm Width: 9 cm

COMMON MEASUREMENT MISTAKES

PULLING THE TAPE TOO TIGHT

This can result in measurements that are smaller than your actual size.

LEAVING TOO MUCH SLACK

Loose measurements can affect the intended fit.

MIXING UNITS

Do not switch between inches and centimeters without clearly labeling them.

ESTIMATING INSTEAD OF MEASURING

Always use an actual measuring tape rather than relying on clothing sizes or estimates.

FAQ

Do I need measurements before requesting a commission?

No. You can submit your commission request and receive your quote before providing final measurements. We will request measurements at the appropriate stage of your commission.

How do I measure my head for a fursuit?

Use a soft measuring tape to record your head circumference, head height, and neck circumference. Keep the tape comfortably close without pulling it tight, and repeat each measurement to confirm it before submitting your final numbers.

Should I use inches or centimeters?

Either is acceptable. Please use one unit consistently and clearly label the unit when submitting your measurements.

What if I get two different measurements?

Measure the area again. We recommend taking each measurement at least twice and submitting the result you can reproduce consistently.

What if my measurements change before production begins?

Contact WildSoul Studio before production begins and provide your updated measurements. We may ask you to reconfirm important measurements when your production slot approaches.
